Laser Hair Removal in Plano, TX
Laser hair removal is a considered purchase, and Plano patients typically compare carefully before booking. The comparison worth making is not price per session — it is which device the clinic uses, because that determines whether the treatment will work on your skin and hair at all.
The Spa by RescueMD is a physician-supervised medical spa in Allen, about 15 to 20 minutes from Plano , under the medical direction of Dr. Olubukola Okoro, MD. We are not located in Plano— we are a short drive away, and a good number of our patients make that drive precisely because of the supervision.

The Candela GentleMax Pro — and Why the Device Matters
We use the Candela GentleMax Pro as part of our laser therapy approach, combining two wavelengths: 755nm Alexandrite for lighter skin tones and 1064nm Nd:YAG, which can be used safely on darker skin. That combination is the reason we can treat all skin tones. Older single-wavelength systems cannot, and being treated on the wrong device is how people end up with burns or pigmentation changes. Always ask a clinic what they use.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
The laser targets pigment in the hair follicle, and the energy absorbed damages the follicle’s ability to produce hair. It only works on follicles in their active growth phase — and at any moment only a portion of your hair is in that phase. That is the entire reason a course of sessions is required rather than a single appointment.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Most areas need six to eight sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart for the body and slightly closer for the face. Hormonal factors can mean more sessions for some patients, particularly on the face and for those with PCOS. Occasional maintenance afterwards is normal.
Is It Permanent?
The accurate term is permanent hair reduction rather than permanent removal. You should expect a dramatic and lasting reduction in hair, with what remains being finer and lighter. Most patients need an occasional top-up session. Any clinic promising total permanent removal is overselling.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Shave the area the day before — do not wax, pluck or use epilation for at least four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the follicle intact to target it. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for two weeks before treatment; treating tanned skin raises the risk of burns and pigmentation changes significantly.
What It Feels Like and What Follows
Most people describe it as a hot rubber band snap. The device has integrated cooling which makes a substantial difference. Afterwards the area may look slightly red and bumpy for a few hours, similar to mild razor burn. Avoid hot showers, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and use sunscreen on treated areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Most areas need six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, because the laser only affects follicles currently in their growth phase. Hormonal factors can mean more, particularly for facial hair.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It produces permanent hair reduction rather than total permanent removal. Expect a dramatic, lasting reduction, with remaining hair finer and lighter, plus occasional maintenance sessions.
Does it work on dark skin?
Yes. We use the Candela GentleMax Pro, which includes a 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength that can be used safely on darker skin tones. Not every clinic has this — it is worth asking before booking anywhere.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe a hot rubber band snap. The device has built-in cooling, and sessions for small areas take only a few minutes.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes — shaving is fine and expected. What you must avoid is waxing, plucking or epilating, because those remove the follicle the laser needs to target.
What should I do before my appointment?
Shave the area the day before, and avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for two weeks. Treating tanned skin significantly increases the risk of burns and pigment changes.
Does it work on blonde, red or grey hair?
Poorly, and we would rather tell you before you pay. The laser targets pigment, so hair with little or no pigment does not respond well. Dark hair responds best.
